Gentry Eagle Gets a Bath!

In her day, the Gentry Eagle was the fastest luxury yacht in the world. She crossed the mighty Atlantic Ocean in just 85 hours. Under the fabled decks lies a pair of diesel engine and a Lycoming helicopter turbine which, when combined with her Arneson jet drive, let her reach speeds in excess of 70mph.

Ah, but that was then. Now she sits enigmatically in Ventura Harbor,  a mighty sea dart waiting for her next adventure.

Until that adventure arrives, however, she's providing a safe haven for a number of seabirds, and, below the waterline, what has to be a forest of marine growth.

When I saw someone working on the upper deck, I almost fell off the dock!

"Has she sold?" I asked.

"Nope," was the reply.

The two guys hosing her down work for Ventura Harbor. Knowing as they do that the harbor will get tons of tourists this summer, the Harbormaster decided that at least her upper works could use a bath.

I did, however, get some dirt.

First, it seems that the turbine engine is still aboard. There was a rumor that floated for awhile that it had been taken out. But she sits as if she's got significant weight in the stern, and one of the harbor guys said he had seen it in there recently.

And, better news: the salon is still intact. Although these guys didn't have access to get into the boat, they looked through the windows and saw that everything looks really good.  Of course, if the guys can't get inside to see if the salon is in good shape, I'm not sure how they can verify that the turbine is still aboard, but, hey, gossip is gossip.

She's for sale, of course. The price was just 3.95USD back in 2012. At 110 feet, that's a lot of boat for the money!

Buy her or not, it was refreshing to see the Ventura Harbor guys refreshing her looks!
